The Battle of the Niemen (Nemunas) River was the second-greatest battle of the Polish-Soviet War.
The Battle of the Nemunas in September 1920 is one of the biggest clashes of the Polish-Russian war. The Polish attack forestalled the intentions of the Bolsheviks and thwarted their plans for another offensive. The maneuver through Lithuania could have led to the encirclement of the Soviets, but some of them managed to break out east. This battle determined the defeat of Russia and led to the end of hostilities.
