Pod El-Alamein, w roku 1942, miały miejsce trzy bitwy: Wzgórza Ruweysat (1-3 VII), Alam el Halfa (30-31 VIII) oraz El-Alamein (23-30 X). W pierwszych dwóch starciach stroną atakującą byli Niemcy i Włosi, w trzeciej inicjatywę posiadali alianci. Ostatnia z bitew stała się przełomem w działaniach w Afryce Północnej. Od tego momentu, Niemcy byli spychani na wschód aż do ostatecznej klęski w Tunezji.

There were three battles fought at El-Alamein in 1942: Ruweisat Heights (1-3 VII), Alam el Halfa (30-31 VIII) and El-Alamein (23-30 October). In the first two battles Axis were on the offensive, while in the third case, Allies launched their attack. The last of the battles became a breakthrough in operations in North Africa. From this moment on, the Axis were consequently forced to retreat east until the final defeat in Tunisia.

Ci furono tre battaglie nella zona di El Alamein nel 1942: Ruweisat Heights (1-3 luglio), Alam el Halfa ( 30-31 agosto) e la controffensiva finale alleata dal 23 al 30 ottobre che sancì lo sfondamento del fronte dell’Asse nel Nord Africa. Da quel momento in poi le forze italo tedesche furono costrette a una costante ritirata verso est fino alla sconfitta finale in Tunisia.

L’Axe a mené l’offensive pour les deux premières batailles alors que pour la troisième, ces sont les Alliés qui ont lancé l’attaque. Ces dernières batailles ont marqué un véritable tournant sur le front des opérations en Afrique du Nord. A partir de ce moment, les forces de l’Axe vont continuellement reculer jusqu’à leur défaite finale en Tunisie.
