Zeka: What periods of history do you play?

I have found this site http://wargaming.pl/index.php that looks interesting. When I have time I will go and say hello.

Which part of Poland is Torun in? Do you know any Polish figure gamers in the South of Poland.

We here in the Czech Republic are trying to find some gamers in Southern Poland so that we can maybe arrange some international games. Polish gamers could come here and play or we could travel to Poland and play. So if you know any one that might be interested please let me know.

Perhaps if Torun is not too far away you could come. Do you have a group of figure players there?

My favourite peridos are ancient and XIX c. (expecially American Civil War), but I "play" almost all periods.

Torun is located in the north part of Poland but it is a little bit far from seaside (around 300 km). In Torun we have two clubs - Mithost where you can play RPG and wargames (main on hex) and Eye of Terror in which you can play figure wargames (main Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40.000, but now boys are playing Warhammer Ancient Battles).
International meeting is good idea but I do not know players from south Poland. If you want to organize such meeting in Prague let me know and I will arrive (probably not only me:) I will try to mobilze other players). At least I need to know it much earlier because I must to do some paperwork.

Zeka:

XIXc is one of my favourite periods as well. We use a set of rules called Fire and Fury here. We also use modifications to these rules to play the European wars of the 1850's, 1860's and 1870's. We use plastic figures for ACW and metal figures for the other wars. Which rules and figuresdo you use?

I also play many periods, including Ancients. But Ancients is not a particular favourite of mine. I like to play it but only sometimes. We use DBM rules here but we also have some new rules from Italy which we will try. These are available free from here - http://www.dadiepiombo.com/basic2.html

We are translating these into Czech and I also think they are being translated into Polish.

My other favourite period is XVIII c (from 1700 to 1765). Do you play this period?

Torun: I think that maybe in English Torun is Thorn? It sounds like you at least have an active gaming scene there which is good. It is similar here in Prague. There are a lot of Warhammer fantasy (and other games) players but not many historical gamers. Many people here are now interested in playing Flames of War (it is kind of Warhammer World War Two). Our group have started playing this as well but mainly we play non warhammer type games.

International Meetings: Yes don't worry we will organise it well in advance.

We have 2 things we are doing.

The first is to hold a wargames show connected with anniversaries of real battles. So on Saturday 30th September 2006 we will have a games show at Lovosice (it used to be called Lobositz). This is not far from Prague and there was a battle there in 1756 between Frederick the Great of Prussia and the Austrains. The show is part of the 250th anniversary celebrations that the town is organising.

We will try to do a similar thing each year. In 2007 maybe in Prague or Kolin as there were battles in these places in 1757. In other years at other battlefields here.

These events would be free and we have tables if you (or some other Polish gamers) would like to come and organise a game? I will send more details later.

Incidentally we may also join a similar idea to this which is happening at Lutynia (Leuthen in English) in Poland. There was a battle there in 1757 and they are also celebrating it.

The other idea we had is for the games weekend and I have already mentioned this. We are going to try to do this in the summer (July maybe). We here in the Czech Republic will hold the first one and then the next can be in some other country. We will rent a small (and cheap) hotel in the countryside and then get gamers from many nearby countries to come and play games. Al costs would be shared. So if maybe the hotel costs 20,000 Czech Crowns to rent and there are 20 gamers, then each will pay 1000 Czech Crowns. If there are 40 gamers then we all pay 500 Czech Crowns.

We thought that it would be good if we had some organised games but also extra tables on which you could play anything you like. So maybe in the morning the Prague group would organise a big Seven Years War game, in the afternoon your group could organise an ACW game and in the evening a Slovak group could maybe run a World War 2 game. If you don't want to paly these games, maybe you don't like Seven Years War, then you could play a game of Ancients agianst someone on one of the other tables.

We think it would be great to do this and would be good for historical figure wargaming in Eastern Europe.

First a very few words about Torun ;) – yes, in English it is called Thorn.

For XIX c. wargames I use plastic figures in 1:72 scale (produced by Italeri, Zvezda etc.) and rules… I mainly use rules made by other players (like “Charge Of Light Brigade” etc.). You can find interesting rules here http://www.freewargamesrules.co.uk

For Ancient periods I use Warhammer Ancient Battles (because here in Thorn people play only in it – of course if they play historic wargames at all).

It is good idea to organize some games weekend… If I could, I will tray to arrive, but for now I can’t because I have some work at the university and probably I’ll go to Vienna.

I don’t have much time for forum, so I think that will be better if you will write e-mail to me.

Than you for Italian rules – I will try it in next week :)

Nico: Yes I have this game as well. It is the same game as the one I mentioned. Avalon Hill took the old SPI game, added some things and then re-issued it. But the basic games are the same and in my opinion also very good games.

Have you played this game?

Hwiccee: Nope, but I have read rule. I am not generally interested in this period, I prefer Napoleon and American Civil War.

Nico: You should play Frederick the Great if you get the chance - it is a very good game. There are not many counters and not many armies. So you have to think very carefully about what you are doing.

I also like the ACW a lot and play this a lot with figures. I am not so interested in Napoleonics but I do play it.

I have boardgames for both wars but I do not often play them. I mostly use them for information for figure games and for running campaigns with figures.
